The Red Color

The Red Color

From a distance the bright red caught my attention, and I assumed it was a red bird. I approached it quietly for a closer look, hoping the bird wouldn't fly away. Surprisingly when I stepped on a twig, the noise did not disturb my stalked target. Moving closer to the red color, it was easy to see that the red was part of the tree.

Three red leaves hung together so closely, they looked like one.  They moved in harmony as the breeze blew, and something about their connection to each other drew me into their world.  Just as they were connected together and to the tree's limb, I felt connected to nature and the beauty it breathes.

Continuing my walk, other colors greeted me. The breeze blew, and with my spirit renewed, my feet didn't feel heavy anymore.

See that red in the center. What is it?

It's leaves... red leaves!

One is All it Takes

One is All it Takes

One little ball of sunshine stood all by itself, and its beauty overshadowed the musty colors around it. Once in view, I was drawn to it, and the world was brighter because of it. One little glow... that's all it took for me to smile, for me to nod in agreement that today is a good day.

One little glow... one little flower in a dark world. Just one... that's all it takes.

Pass it on, y'all...
pass it on.

Once Around the Loop

 Once Around the Loop

Wild pear tree blossoms, Texas

No excuses. No more procrastination. Today I begin my exercise program, the program that I've been thinking about for three years now. What can I say about the delay? I'm skilled at putting things off.

Grabbed my shoes, a lightweight jacket and told myself,  "Once around the loop is all you have to do... just do it." Mustering up self-discipline, I began walking. After a mere forty yards, these tight muscles of mine needed a break. Sad, but true.

So, I stopped in my tracks, relaxed and looked at the beauty around me. Peeking out from the brambles the white pear blossoms swayed in the breeze. No green leaves beside them, not yet, but their delicate blossoms welcomed all who passed by.

Moving on I wondered how long it would take to complete the loop. I even looked at my watch to time my trek. Then there were red bud trees in bloom. Their pretty flowers just making their appearance splashed violet, magenta & purple across my line of vision. Beautiful!

This mid-afternoon walk took me beside the pond, where a few ducks floated effortlessly. And as I circled around, I could see a few Mallards resting on the grass with their heads bowed under their wings. It was as if they were praying, and I thought to myself, "what a lovely way to fall asleep."

Before I knew it I had made it back to the beginning of the walking trail. I sat down for a few minutes on a nearby bench when the bright yellow glow caught my eye. Forsythia! Wild, untamed yellow lines of blossoms! So beautiful and inviting!

I wanted a closer look so I walked over and took a couple of pictures. Then I started walking to pear blossoms so I could take a picture of them. Then the red bud trees, and before I knew it I had circled the trail again.

Amazing... it was a beautiful day with beauty all around me. I loved the colors, the sounds, and the fragrance of  Spring. I profited from the exercise, and I value the reminder from the ducks about praying. Surprisingly, after making it around the loop, and then again (that's twice), I forgot to look at my watch.
